The Saint and Doctor Who Intersect with Bond

Happy Friday the 13th! Did you make it through the day without any bad mojo happening? Well, today I’ve got two individuals who happened to have some common threads: The Saint, Doctor Who and of course, Mr. James Bond. Read more below.

Joseph Furst originally studied law but later became interested in acting. Although he was from Austria, he got his acting start on the Canadian stage. He later moved to England, taking on villainous roles in various television shows and movies. In particular, he played Professor Hermann Zaroff in the Doctor Who episode “The Underwater Menace” (1967) and a few years later, he played Dr. Metz in Diamonds Are Forever.

Furst had a lengthy career that spanned from 1953 to 1986 with 65 acting credits to his name. In particular, he appeared four times on Roger Moore’s The Saint. In the mid-70s, he immigrated to Australia and continued his acting career in a variety of television drama series before retiring in 1986.

Max Faulkner was a busy man in show business! He had 75 acting credits, 10 stunt credits and one instance of being a horsemaster for the 1967 film, Far From the Madding Crowd. He had a thirty-two year gap between working on two Bond films with two different Bonds: with Sean Connery in the 1963 From Russia With Love and with Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 GoldenEye.

Like Furst, Faulkner worked on the Doctor Who series. He worked on the two-part episode “The Hand of Fear” in 1976 where he did stunts, and he was cast in various roles spanning 1970 through 1978. And, he even appeared in an episode of The Saint in 1964!
